News from the USLGA

By Mary Bergstrom, President USLGA

2014 has been a big year for the United States Lavender Growers Association! We celebrated our two year anniversary this past April and currently have over 185 members, which is a 30% increase in the past year. Our public presence has been growing too! We now have active Pinterest and Instagram accounts and our Facebook page has seen an increase in ‘likes’ of over 50% since last summer.

We presented our inaugural LIFT (Lavender Ideas For Tomorrow) Award to Kathy Gehrt, author of Discover Cooking With Lavender, in recognition of the work, imagination and inspiration she has provided to the lavender industry through her writing, sharing and teaching about culinary lavender. We have also compiled and released our first in-depth Annual US Lavender Harvest Report which is available to grower, associate and affiliate members of USLGA.

Registration for the 2015 United States Lavender Conference is officially open and we couldn’t be more excited by all that will be offered there. From January 22 through 25, 2015 over 150 lavender growers, vendors and enthusiasts will gather in San Antonio Texas to network and learn from some of the biggest names in lavender including Robert Seidel of The Essential Oil Company, Andy Van Hevelingen of Van Hevelingen Nursery in Oregon, USLGA’s Founding President Mary Bergstrom, and as Keynote speaker, Dr. Richard Becker of Becker Vineyards in California.

The conference theme of “Leafing Out and Expanding our Business: Continuing to Grow a Professional Lavender Industry” will be supported with speaker topics such as Agri-Business at Becker Vineyards, Make Your Business Memorable – Marketing Your Farm, Product & Events, For Love or Money? Is it possible to have both with lavender?, The Healing Properties of Lavender: What Can We Claim, Nose Training for Creating & Detecting Quality Oils & Hydrosols, Let’s Host an Event: Ideas for Managing Successful and Profitable Events, and more.

With the end of such an eventful year nearing, we are anxious to see what 2015 will bring!
